In a festive ceremony on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Prof. Hiroshi Nagashima, Ph.D., from the School of Agriculture, Meiji University, Japan, was awarded an honorary doctorate.
In his laudatory speech, Prof. Eckhard Wolf praised Prof. Nagashima's outstanding scientific commitment. As an internationally renowned reproductive biologist and biotechnologist, he helped establish core transfer technology in pigs at the faculty in 2006 by sending a highly skilled young scientist, Dr. Mayuko Kurome, to Munich. This technology formed the basis for the development of genetically modified pigs for medical research, for numerous high-ranking publications and third-party funded projects, and for unique research infrastructures, including the Center for Innovative Medical Models (CiMM) and the Interfaculty Center for Endocrine and Cardiovascular Disease Network Modeling and Clinical Transfer (ICON). Prof. Nagashima has thus rendered outstanding services to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and LMU Munich as a whole. Prof. Reinhard K. Straubinger, Ph.D., also expressed his warmest congratulations to Prof. Nagashima on behalf of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for this special award.
The faculty honors an exceptional academic career and a long-standing, successful international partnership with the award of an honorary doctorate.
